Bus companies await Govt response regarding e-ticketing provider
28 Bus companies who have raised concern on the Electronic Ticketing System in a petition are awaiting a response from Government.

Tebara Bus Company CEO Arvind Maharaj said they have been told that the petition is being looked into.

Maharaj said that for the last six months, they have been asking relevant authorities to allow them to choose their own network provider but were continually told to purchase the system from Foneology and use Vodafone network as their E-ticketing platform.

Maharaj said the only source of revenue for their industry is bus fare.

According to Maharaj they have arranged with Digicel to provide an e-ticketing platform for much lower fees which shall also provide healthy competition to Vodafone.

The petition said the current e-ticketing solution threatens closure of their businesses and claim that the Commerce Commission agrees the Vodafone monopoly over the e-ticketing system is a breach of the law.

We are still trying to contact LTA CEO Naisa Tuinaceva and Commerce Commission Chairperson Dr Mahendra Reddy.
