Bread prices go up from today
This increase will see consumers in the urban areas of Suva, Lautoka, Ba, Lami, Nadi, Sigatoka, Tavua, Nausori, Nasinu and areas near Korovou, Navua and Rakiraki pay 80 cents for long loaf wrapped or unwrapped, wholemeal medium wrapped or sliced bread will increase to $1.40.

In the North and in areas 8 kilometers from the Post Office at Waiyevo in Taveuni, long loaf wrapped or unwrapped bread will cost 84 cents, wholemeal medium wrapped or sliced bread will cost $1.46, and long loaf wrapped or sliced bread will cost $1.17.

For areas on the islands of Vanua Levu and Ovalau within a kilometre from any public road except in the towns of Labasa, Savusavu and Levuka, long loaf wrapped or unwrapped bread will cost 87 cents, wholemeal medium wrapped or sliced bread will cost $1.48, and long loaf wrapped or sliced bread will cost $1.19.

Prices will vary in the Northern division and other areas.

The Commerce Commission clarifies that only these types of bread are under price control as they are mainly used by the consumers.

Commission Chairman, Doctor Mahendra Reddy said the other types of bread are determined by the market prices.
