A pregnant woman in Colase in Rakiraki who started experiencing labour pain but was stuck due to flooding at her home was rescued by a group of brave health workers, firefighters and police officers this morning.

They used a cut open rota water storage tank to transport the woman through floodwaters as it was inaccessible to vehicles.

Police Chief of Operations ACP Abdul Khan confirms the 28-year-old woman was transported to Rakiraki Hospital and gave birth at around 7 o'clock this morning.

He says it was a team effort and the team in Rakiraki saved two lives today.

Minister for Education and Local Government Premila Kumar also took to Twitter to thank them for their bravery.
