It’s time to embrace Fiji.
That’s the comment from Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop as she gets ready to meet with Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama in Suva this afternoon.
Bishop has made it clear in a Pacific Beat interview that she will not impose any conditions on the Fijian government when discussions take place with Commodore Bainimarama.
Bishop said travel sanctions are also being reviewed.
Julie Bishop, who is part of the Pacific Islands Forum Ministerial Contact Group, said Australia’s stand is clear.
Bishop said the Pacific Islands Forum and the Commonwealth will decide on Fiji’s suspension from these groups.
Commodore Bainimarama will meet with Julie Bishop this afternoon.
The Forum Ministerial Contact Group will meet with Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum later this afternoon.
This evening they will be in an official function at Borron House.
They meet representatives of the political parties tomorrow.
