The United States President, Joe Biden says he has no confidence in the number that Palestinians are using for the number of people killed by Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip.

Biden says the health ministry in Gaza has been releasing regular figures for the number of dead with its latest update putting the total at more than 6,500, including more than 750 in the last 24-hour period.

He says the overall total includes nearly 500 who were killed in the blast at a Gaza hospital last week and a figure that US intelligence estimated at between 100 and 300.

The President says he does not believe the death figures, however the ministry which distributes the information like the rest of Gaza is run by Hamas.

Meanwhile, Israel says more than 1,400 of its citizens were killed in the initial Hamas terror attack at the start of the month.
