Bed bugs a persistent challenge in Remand Centre - Fiji Corrections

Fiji Corrections Service says they are continuously working to address the persistent issue of bed bugs at the facilities after a complaint from drug accused Yin Ging Ging, who is currently in the Suva Remand Centre.

The Fiji Corrections Service told fijivillage News that they are using chemicals and changing bedding regularly, but it can be quite challenging at times due to the high number of inmates and overcrowding at the remand centre.

They say bed bugs are a persistent issue as their eggs attach to people and can easily be transferred from one place to another.

The Corrections Service say the problem is more common in remand centres because of the frequent movement of inmates going in and out, compared to convicted prisons.

They add that people need to understand this is a resistant type of bug that also exists in many homes, and people are the main carriers bringing it in.
