Bail granted to 5 Police officers allegedly involved in an assault and extortion case

Bail has been granted for the 5 suspended Police officers charged for their alleged involved in an assault and extortion case against a Nasinu businessman last week.

The 5 are Semiji Puamau, Elizabeth Sautu, Koroi Lakokilepanoni, Bernand Vukivuki and Timoci Belo.

They appeared before Nasinu Magistrate Krishn Prasad this afternoon.

They are out on $1,000 cash bail each.

They have also provided 2 sureties each, bonded for $1000 and have been ordered to surrender their travel documents.

Stop Departure Orders have also been issued for the 5.

Police say they have all been charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.

Four of the officers face an additional charge of theft and wrongful confinement while two officers face a third count of possession of property suspected of being proceeds of crime.

Their case has been adjourned until 25th August.

Members of the media were earlier shut out of the court by a police officer.
