Baber predicts bright future for Sireli Maqala

Team Fiji Men’s 7s Coach Gareth Baber has predicted a bright future for rising star, Sireli Maqala and says people are starting to notice his talent.

Maqala is the 13th player for the Fiji Team for the Tokyo Olympics.

Baber says the 21-year-old has been exceptional and has had a good period of time with the team.

Impressive performances at the Oceania 7s was enough for Baber to include Maqala in his team for the Olympics.

Maqala was spotted by Baber when he was playing for the Dominion Brothers U-20 side.

Maqala was also part of the RKS team that won the Deans Trophy in 2018.

The Fiji Men’s 7s team will begin their defence of the Olympic gold medal against Japan at 12pm next Monday and then play Canada at 8pm.

Fiji will play Great Britain at 12.30pm next Tuesday.

The quarterfinals will start at 8.30pm next Tuesday, the semi-finals will be played from 2pm next Wednesday while the final will be played at 9pm next Wednesday.
