An Australian Defence Force water purification plant established in Vanua Levu over the weekend has already produced over 13,000 litres of water per day for distribution to those affected by Tropical Cyclone Yasa.

The temporary specialized emergency purification plant, which can desalinate seawater and turn it into drinking water, and its generator were setup in Vanua Levu as part of the Australian Government’s support to the Fijian Government’s TC Yasa response effort.

Members of the Australian Army are working together with the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and the Water Authority of Fiji to distribute the clean water from the water distribution point at Bakana Jetty, while also maintaining strict COVID-safe protocols set up by Fiji’s Ministry of Health.
