The Australian High Commissioner to Fiji John Feakes says Australia is committed to exploring quarantine-free travel arrangements with Fiji when it is safe to do so.

Feakes says they recognise that reopening travel with Fiji will have a profound effect on Fiji’s economy and local employment and look forward to the day they can announce the resumption of travel.

He further says however their overriding priority is to ensure they protect the health and safety of Fijians.

The Australian High Commissioner adds Fiji has shown strong leadership, which has resulted in a COVID-contained country and they hope to keep it that way.

Feakes says they will need to be confident that COVID-19 is suppressed in Australia before reopening travel to Fiji and the Australian Government holds regular discussions with Fijian officials about how to safely reopen travel.
