There are now revelations that Australia has made an approach to the Chinese government to reconsider its aid and funding assistance to Fiji as it may give legitimacy to what is currently happening in Fiji.
Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama said he is aware of a number of approaches which Australia and New Zealand has made in the past few months to ensure that the Fiji economy is crippled.
However, Bainimarama said Australia and New Zealand need to understand that the pressure and threats will not deter the government from implementing electoral changes and reforms.
Speaking to Fijivillage in Canberra, Australia's Parliamentary Secretary for Pacific Affairs Duncan Kerr revealed that China has already been approached by Australia.
However, Kerr then said that the issue of Chinese investments in the Pacific is welcomed.
He denied that the Chinese assistance is hindering the sanctions imposed by Australia and NZ.
