Arsenal fight back to hold Liverpool 2–all draw

Arsenal came from two goals down to draw with Premier League champions Liverpool in an entertaining match at Anfield this morning.

There was a celebratory atmosphere as Liverpool – who secured the title two weeks ago – raced ahead with two goals in two minutes.

Cody Gakpo scored the first goal in the 20th minute, and Luis Diaz doubled their lead just a minute later.

Liverpool led 2–0 at halftime.

Arsenal looked as though they were heading for a heavy defeat but rallied after the break.

Gabriel Martinelli scored in the 47th minute, while Mikel Merino netted the equaliser in the 70th minute.

Merino was shown a red card after lunging into a tackle on the edge of the Arsenal penalty area, following a loss of possession – and the visitors played the final 10 minutes with ten men.

Liverpool currently lead the table with 83 points, Arsenal are second with 68 points, Newcastle United are third with 66 points, and Manchester United sit in fourth place with 65 points.

In other matches this morning, Nottingham Forest and Leicester City drew 2–2, West Ham United beat Manchester United 2–0, and Crystal Palace defeated Tottenham 2–0.
