About 200 members of the Indian diaspora and friends of India gathered at India House in Suva, as High Commissioner Suneet Mehta hosted the Tiranga to mark India’s 79th Independence Day.

The ceremony included a floral tribute to India’s Iron Man, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Mehta also shared excerpts from the address of the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, highlighting India’s journey since independence, democratic values, economic growth, social equality, and technological advancement.

The speech also emphasised unity, resilience against terrorism, environmental responsibility, and good governance.

Patriotic songs were performed by students and teachers of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, and guests enthusiastically participated in the #HarGharTiranga campaign, celebrating the spirit of Indian culture and patriotism.
