Any proposed parties to come up with new names and acronyms
A new amendment has been announced to the Political Parties Decree which states that any proposed political parties will have to come up with new names and acronyms when they apply for registration.

Registrar of Political Parties Mere Vuniwaqa said nothing can be used from the old party as that has already been de-registered.

Vuniwaqa also said that they will refuse an application if it is found that the application was obtained through fraudulent means.

Meanwhile Vuniwaqa said another amendment to the decree relates to the role of the media.

The Directors of the media organization, the Editor and Publisher or the Chief Executive Officer shall be liable upon conviction to a fine not exceeding $50,000 or to a term of imprisonment of up to five years or both if they are found guilty of the offence.

The amended decree came into effect last Saturday.
