Annual inflation rate stands at 1.1 percent

The average annual rate of inflation for the twelve months to October this year stands at 1.1%.

This has been confirmed by the Fiji Bureau of Statistics.

There are two measures of inflation used in Fiji. One compares the average Consumer Price Index over the past twelve months over the previous twelve months while the other compares the Consumer Price Index in the current month with the comparable month of the previous year.

The Consumer Price Index is compiled to indicate average changes in the prices of goods and services purchased by households nationwide.

The price changes between September and October this year indicate a 1.5% increase in the price of meat, fish, seafood, oils, vegetables and non-alcoholic beverages and 0.6% increase in the price beer, wine and yaqona.

There was a 0.9% decrease in the prices of paints, gas, kerosene, fuels and lubricants.

No changes were recorded for clothing, footwear, health, communication, education, restaurants and hotels.
