An invitation by a senior officer is a command - Rabuka
Leader of the Opposition, Sitiveni Rabuka

Leader of the Opposition, Sitiveni Rabuka says an invitation by a senior officer is a command, and that is the reason why he decided that SODELPA should participate in the Parliamentary Privileges Committee after a letter by the Speaker of the Parliament, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.

Rabuka says although they had written to the Speaker that they would not participate in the committee meeting, they decided otherwise after the Speaker’s response.

Rabuka says he decided to recuse himself from the committee as an objection was raised on Rabuka making public comments on the matter of privilege.

The Leader of the Opposition also says that he also met separately with the Prime Minister and Pio Tikoduadua yesterday, and attempted reconciliation between the two.

Rabuka says you can take the horses to the water but you cannot make them drink.

He says it is up to Bainimarama and Tikoduadua to reconcile their differences.

The Speaker had earlier revealed that Bainimarama had gone to him in the afternoon of August 9th and apologized to him and parliament, and also wanted to apologize to Tikoduadua in the presence of the Speaker.

Ratu Epeli had revealed that Tikoduadua had told the Speaker that he was not available for the meeting.

Rabuka also says that they will leave it to Parliament and Police to deal with the case as they are two independent bodies of the state.

He says what the Speaker feels and what will happen, no one knows.
