Alleged murderer to be confined in a mental hospital or other suitable place of custody

High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar has ordered that a 69-year-old man who is charged with a count of murder be confined in a mental hospital or other suitable place of custody.

Josua Duruloka is alleged to have murdered an elderly man in Levuka in December last year.

Duruloka’s medical report revealed that he is suffering from schizophrenia.

Justice Goundar says the man is unfit to take his plea or stand trial due to mental illness.

The court was told that Duruloka who was walking along a road had twice punched the elderly man.
