Alleged arsonist from Nadawa further remanded

The case of the 38-year-old man who is alleged to have set his house on fire has been transferred to the Suva High Court.

He is charged with one count of arson and two counts of attempted murder.

The matter was called before Nasinu Magistrate Charles Ratakele.

The alleged incidents took place last Friday night.

It is alleged that the man set the house he rented in on fire and attempted to harm his two sons aged 10 years and 1 year 9 months.

He has been further remanded in custody and his case will be called this Friday.

His lawyer, John Rabuku today revealed in court that the client has a history of mental issues, however no medical document was produced as evidence.

Rabuku also told the court that there were two previous instances where the accused is alleged to have attempted to commit suicide.

Magistrate Ratakele has asked that a proper bail application be made before the High Court on Friday.
