Its kick off day in Hong Kong and fans hope that the Digicel Fiji Sevens team will do our country proud starting from the first pool match tonight.
Since the inception of the Hong Kong Sevens tournament in 1976, Fiji has won the tournament 12 times, which is the most compared to any other team.
The new coaching staff led by Alifereti Dere and Etuate Waqa have promised that they will bring back the Fijian flair.
Fiji’s task will be spearheaded by captain Setefano Cakau who always leads by example but he has also given a strong message to his other players and that is to shoulder the workload.
Cakau said the players have fully committed themselves to the work ahead with only one aim in mind.
Standing in our way will be Fiji’s greatest rival, New Zealand who has won the Hong Kong title nine times.
New Zealand is also the defending champions of the Hong Kong tournament.
New Zealand Sevens captain DJ Forbes has lifted the cup at So Kon Po Stadium twice and is the most experienced captain of all.
Forbes said one cannot underestimate any team in this competitive era of rugby.
For South Africa, Hong Kong Sevens is still an unfinished business as the team has never won in Hong Kong.
Coach Paul Treu said he wants to taste victory at Happy Valley at any cost now.
The Hong Kong Sevens kicks off at 8 o’clock tonight with the first match between Portugal and Guyana.
Fiji will take on Scotland at 9:06pm in its first match.
Fiji’s matches tomorrow will be against France at 5:32pm and Australia at 10:46pm.
The run on team for Fiji against Scotland tonight is Setefano Cakau, Nemani Nagusa, and Waisea Nayacalevu in the forwards.
Nikola Matawalu will run at halfback, Metuisela Talebula at playmaker, Joeli Lutumailagi at rover and Sikeli Vuruna on the wing.
