All steps are being taken to ensure our borders are safe - Kubuabola
Minister for Defence and National Security Ratu Inoke Kubuabola.

Minister for Defence and National Security Ratu Inoke Kubuabola has assured the nation that all steps are being taken to ensure that our borders are safe and measures are in place to prevent further smuggling of arms and ammunition into the country.

Kubuabola made this clear after a question raised by SODELPA MP, Viliame Gavoka in parliament today.

He says Fiji has x-ray machines and K9 Units at the main ports of entry.

Kubuabola says they also work with INTERPOL to share required data.

He says that they also work with the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji to monitor all vessels in our waters.

The Defence Minister also reveals that the Ministry continues to consult with certain private entities who are equipped to provide acute aerial monitoring and clear surveillance to the maritime and law enforcement agencies.

SODELPA MP Niko Nawaikula then raised the issue on how they are monitoring our waters as a navy vessel is now wrecked.

Kubuabola says the border agencies are active and they continue to work together.

SODELPA MP Anare Vadei also raised the question about all the smuggled arms and ammunition.
