All schools in Lau, Kadavu and Lomaiviti group will be closed today.
This has been confirmed by the Ministry of Education.
In a statement, the Ministry says school heads and managers have been asked to take necessary precautions such as fastening any loose structures, dismantling temporary materials or structures and storing necessary emergency kits for boarders.
It says parents and guardians in other parts of the country are to use their own discretion on the safety of their children.
The Education Ministry stresses if the need arises, parents can let their child stay at home.
