The Fiji Rugby Union confirmed that all the players playing in World Rugby sanctioned tournaments have medical insurance.

FRU Chief Executive Officer John O’Connor said this is a World Rugby requirement.

O’Connor has made this clear following reports that the Fijian Teachers Association executives decided to pay $6,000 for Vodafone Fiji 7s player Savenaca Rawaca’s hospitalization at the Suva Private Hospital.

O’Connor said an assessment was made after Rawaca’s return from the Hong Kong 7s and it was confirmed that he needed an injection everyday over a period of time.

He said the assessment confirmed that Rawaca did not need to be admitted.

O’Connor said a retired school teacher met Rawaca at the hospital and offered to pay for his hospital expenses.

He stressed that Rawaca’s medical treatment was covered under FRU's medical insurance cover.

FTA President Gauna Halofaki said they used the FTA’s donated funds as a contribution to Fiji’s preparations for the Rio Olympics.

He said they paid $6,000 for Rawaca to be admitted at the Suva Private Hospital for six days.
