All current emergency passport applications are being processed by the Department of Immigration.
Director of Immigration, Nemani Vuniwaqa said that an order for 1,100 emergency passports to be printed has been given to Government Printing.
Emergency passports presently cannot be used as travel documents to Australia, New Zealand, USA, India, Germany and France.
Immigration officials of Australia, NZ, US and India are still looking at the specimen passports and no time frame has been given on when the final approval will be made.
Japan has not approved the new emergency passports however it can be used only if accompanied with an official travel document produced by their Embassy.
Some countries that have approved the Fiji emergency passports are South Korea, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea.
