All courts in Viti Levu will be closed until further notice

All courts, Small Claims Tribunal and other tribunals in Viti Levu will be closed until further notice.

Acting Chief Justice Kamal Kumar says this is in consideration for health and safety of the public and measures taken by the government.

Acting Chief Justice Kumar says only urgent matters will be dealt by the courts.

He says except for urgent matters, all matters listed for hearing or mention/ review/pre-trial conference or any other reason will be vacated and fresh dates will be assigned.

Acting Chief Justice Kumar says urgent matters include accused brought to court for the first time, remandees brought to court, applications against unlawful and indefinite imprisonment, absconding warrants, Domestic Violence Restraining Order applications, child recovery cases, ex-parte applications and those approved by his office, Chief Registrar or the Chief Magistrate.
