Village headman, Josua Sovasova said the driver and victim a 22 year old USP student had come from Suva on New Year’s Eve to farewell his older brother who is in the British Army.

Sovasova said the 22 year old and his friends had gone for a picnic and had cold drinks on the fatal New Years day before they proceeded to town and that is when the accident happened.

The village elders and the close family are currently meeting to decide on the funeral day.

Meanwhile, police have confirmed that the passengers and driver of the vehicle were under the influence of alcohol.
