Acting Prime Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum confirms that the government will put in the money to ensure that Fiji hosts a successful leg of the World Rugby 7s Series if Fiji wins the bid to host a tournament.
Sayed-Khaiyum has confirmed in parliament that it could cost over $10 million to host the tournament.
He revealed this in parliament after SODELPA MP, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu asked Sayed-Khaiyum if the government can have a 7s tournament but not through the Fiji Rugby Union.
Sayed-Khaiyum says the 7s tournament has to be sanctioned by World Rugby to give it credibility.
He says this is the reason for bidding to host a leg in the World Rugby Series.
Sayed-Khaiyum says there are many options on building the infrastructure for the 7s tournament, and Fijian Holdings Limited is also looking at a permanent structure.
