AG to chair ACP Ministerial meeting

AG to chair ACP Ministerial meeting
Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum will chair a high level meeting of the African, Caribbean and Pacific States in Brussels in the next few days.

This is expected to be a significant step as the European Union
decided to suspend about 350 million dollars in assistance to Fiji six years ago.

Sayed-Khaiyum will chair the 16th Meeting of the ACP Ministerial Trade Committee.

He left for Europe today as the head of the Fijian delegation.

The Ministerial meeting will be attended by ministers from the 79 ACP countries.

In its 37 years, the organization, working as a bloc, has been able to secure aid, trade and investment treaties for its members with the EU.

As well as chairing the ACP meeting, the Minister will be co-chairing the 11th Joint Ministerial Trade Committee talks between the ACP and the European Union.

By calling upon Fiji to chair these meetings, Sayed-Khaiyum said the ACP countries have reaffirmed their confidence in Fiji.
