Treat Fiji as equals and come to the table ready to listen.
That’s Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum’s message to the governments of New Zealand and Australia following questions raised on Fiji seeking stronger ties with the Asian countries.
Sayed-Khaiyum has told TV3 that Fiji is ready to speak to any country.
Sayed-Khaiyum also questioned the NZ government’s objective in banning the top Fiji rugby players from playing in the Rugby World Cup in NZ.
The Attorney General said Fiji has already said that elections will be held in 2014 and he wonders what other assurances are needed from the NZ government.
Under the Strategic Framework, the government has decided to focus on the social and economic reforms before focusing on work on the new constitution.
Work on the constitution is expected to begin next year, and the document is expected to be ready by 2013.
Awareness on the new constitution and electoral system is expected to take place in 2013 and 2014 and elections will be held no later than September 2014.
