AG raises some concerns about some PAC members
Attorney General and Finance Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum

Attorney General and Finance Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has today raised concerns about how some of the Public Accounts Committee members are now going outside the issues in the Auditor General’s reports.

While speaking at the UN Convention Against Corruption and Global Organization of Parliamentary Oversight Workshop in Nadi today, Sayed-Khaiyum stresses that institutions dealing with any corruption related issues need to be independent.

Sayed-Khaiyum says work should continue on strengthening our institutions like FICAC and the Auditor General’s Office.

He also raises the issue on how the Public Accounts Committee is currently carrying out it’s work.

Meanwhile Public Accounts Committee Chairman, Biman Prasad says they are only touching on issues in the Auditor General’s reports and matters relating to them.

Prasad also says Public Accounts Committee is one committee that is presenting unanimous reports with both opposition and government members working together.
