ADB approves close to $2 million grant for TC Yasa Relief Efforts

The Asian Development Bank has approved a grant of about $2 million to the Government of Fiji to help fund priority recovery activities following Tropical Cyclone Yasa.

Regional Director of ADB’s Pacific Sub-regional Office in Fiji Masayuki Tachiiri says this is the second tropical cyclone this year to cause severe destruction in Fiji, as Fiji’s economy continues to be impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He says the funds may be used to provide support for the restoration of basic social services, transitional shelter, and safe food and water to affected communities.

The grant is sourced from ADB’s Asia Pacific Disaster Response Fund.
