Nine contestants will be vying for the 31st Miss Pacific Islands Pageant which will be held at the Prince Charles Park in Nadi from the 6th to the 9th of next month.

Minister for Local Government Parveen Bala says the number of contestants increased to nine from the usual eight this year with the inclusion of Miss Rapanui from Easter Island.

The other contestants are Miss Fiji, Miss Nauru, Miss Papua New Guinea, Miss Samoa, Miss Solomon Islands, Miss American Samoa and Miss Tonga.

Bala says the total approximate cost of hosting the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant is $200,000.

He says people from all walks of life are expected to turn out at Prince Charles Park as Fiji does not charge entry fee for this sort of Pageant.

The first official programme will begin this Friday with contestants picking their Pre-Pageant interview questions.

The contestants will also visit Narewa village for the traditional presentation and the resorts which will include environmentally sustainable activities aligned with the theme, “Climate Action to sustain our Islands”.

Hally Qaqa will represent Fiji at the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant.
