Eighty five thousand students who have begun Term 1 of the 2019 school year today will not have to pay their bus fares under the government’s subsidised bus fare scheme.

This has been confirmed by Vodafone Head of E‑Commerce and Corporate Affairs Shailendra Prasad.

Prasad confirms the money was topped up into the system last week and now the cards need to be tapped to get the balance redeemed on the students’ cards.

Prasad says the E-ticketing system has been in place for more than a year now and apart from parents of new students, other parents are aware of how the system works.

He says parents who would like more information can call the Ministry of Education on their toll free line 163.
