8 booked for smoking in public and 2 for selling loose cigarettes at the Suva Market Area

People are urged to stop smoking in public places and selling loose cigarettes after eight people got booked for smoking in a public place and two for selling loose cigarettes at the Suva Market Area this week.

The Ministry of Health, with the Fiji Police Force and Suva City Council, carried out a joint monitoring and surveillance operation at the Suva Market Area.

According to the Tobacco Control Decree 2010, a person must not smoke tobacco products in areas like amusement centres, sports centres, hospitals, clinics, lifts, Public Service vehicles, and bus stations except for designated smoking areas.
