783 houses damaged during TC Harold

The National Disaster Management Office says 783 houses were damaged during Tropical Cyclone Harold and this number could increase as relevant ministries conduct damage assessments.

The Divisional Emergency Operations Centre has indicated that the most number of houses destroyed or badly damaged are in Kadavu and Southern Lau.

Based on current assessments, 244 houses have been destroyed while 203 houses were partially damaged in the Eastern Division.

94 houses were destroyed while 242 houses were partially damaged in the Central Division.

The houses are located in Narere, Nausori, Tailevu, Beqa and Yanuca.

Minister for Defence, Inia Seruiratu says the Initial Damage Assessment in the Western Division is still being carried out including the assessment on Vatulele Island.

He says according to the Initial Damage Assessment, the Northern Division did not have major structural damages and they are now back to focusing on COVID-19.

The NDMO says they will get detailed assessments from the ground in the next few days.
