754 plants believed to be marijuana uprooted in Kadavu

754 plants believed to be marijuana have been uprooted from two farms on the Island of Kadavu as police commence phase two of Operation Sasamaki.

The first raid was conducted at Nauciwai Village, Yale where a team uprooted 325 plants believed to be marijuana and as a result six people were taken to Vunisea Police Station for questioning.

In the second raid a team uprooted 429 plants also believed to be marijuana from a farm belonging to a 32-year-old man of Levuka Village in Yale.

The suspect is yet to be arrested.

Police Chief of Operations ACP Rusiate Tudravu has also confirmed that a 34 year old woman was also arrested yesterday after she was found with a plastic containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

Tudravu said all seized plants and leaves confiscated in Kadavu will now be brought to Suva and tested at the Fiji Police Forensic Lab in Nasova.

Phase two of Operation Sasamaki is also an outcome of a request that was made by the Kadavu Provincial Council last year to conduct a clean-up campaign on the island.
