Shocking statistics have been revealed as 70 cases of suicide have been recorded from January to August this year compared to 53 for the same period last year.

From the 70 cases, 50 are males and 20 are females

54 attempted suicide cases have also been recorded.

While speaking during World Suicide Prevention Day last night, Lifeline Fiji Team Leader, Jeremaia Merekula says through the statistics recorded within the eight month period, the rising number of cases is very concerning.

Psychiatrist, Selina Kuruleca highlighted that it's sad to see that through past statistics, cases of suicide for our elderly population are high.

Kuruleca says through research and study, they can analyse data to make more targeted interventions from the different calculations.

She says the action we do must be in love in order to make a difference in anybody's life.

If you are facing any issues and would like to talk to someone you can call Lifeline Fiji on 1543 or Empower Pacific on 5626.
