70% student turnout on Day 1, more expected today

The Ministry of Education recorded a 70% student turnout on the first day of school for Year 12 and 13 students.

The Ministry says it is encouraged to see a high number of students turn up for school, over 100 days after schools were closed due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Education Minister Rosy Akbar says they would like to thank all the children and encourage them all to continue going to school and make the best of the free education provided by the Fijian Government.

She also thanked parents who have worked so hard to get their children to school.

Akbar also says the support from parents during the critical years of a child's education, especially during a pandemic, can never be understated.
