7 men from Kadavu charged with drug cultivation, possession and criminal intimidation

7 men from Kadavu who are charged with cultivation of illicit drugs, possession of illicit drugs and criminal intimidation appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court.

It is alleged that on the 10th of November this year, 29-year-old Ameo Maravou cultivated 120 plants of marijuana.

It is alleged that 50-year-old Iliesa Kamunaga cultivated 20 plants of marijuana on the 9th of this month.

29-year-old Anare Maravu is alleged to have had 2.6kg of marijuana in his possession on the 9th of this month.

It is alleged that 53-year-old Iowane Malakai on the 11th of this month cultivated 3 plants of marijuana.

Semi Tuikawakawa is alleged to have cultivated 8 kilograms of marijuana on the 9th of this month.

41-year-old Ratu Kadavu Sivonaivalu is alleged to have cultivated 21 plants marijuana.

It is alleged that 33-year-old Ratu Ilaitia Lewanavanua threatened Corporal Kinivilliame Bulisere and others with a cane knife with intent to cause harm to Corporal Bulisere.

He is also alleged to have resisted arrest.

All men have been remanded in custody and the case will be called again on the 1st of December.              

A 30-year-old pastor is amongst the 10 people brought to Suva following the one-week drug operation in Kadavu.

The pastor and 2 others are yet to appear in court as their charges are being reviewed.

Police Chief Operations Officer ACP Rusiate Tudravu says Operation Cavuraka moved to Kadavu last week where more than 10 farms were raided and more than 700 plants ranging up to 2 metres were uprooted.

Police are also warning members of the public not to threaten the officers who are conducting the raids as they had an incident where a suspect threatened the raid team with a cane knife.

ACP Tudravu says if these people are man enough to associate themselves with these illegal activities then they should be man enough to face the consequences when caught and Police will not tolerate any threats against its officer.
