Speeding and drunk driving is a major concern on our roads as 623 traffic infringement notices have been issued by Police in the last 24 hours.

7 people are in custody for drunk driving while 249 drivers have been charged with speeding.

The 7 cases of drunk driving are from Suva, Nausori and Nadi.

Other offences include careless driving, illegal operation, driving without or an expired license and excess passengers.

Director Traffic SSP Mahesh Mishra says motorists should understand and think of those who have lost their lives through drunk driving, speeding and bad driving behavior.

SSP Mishra also issued a stern warning to those who will be taken into custody for drunk driving.

Mishra has urged drivers to think of their safety and the safety of other road users.

The current road death toll is 60.
