A 61-year-old man who raped his 10-year-old neighbour in Suva in February this year has been sentenced to 15 years and 6 months imprisonment.
The incident happened inside the home of the accused.
While sentencing the man, Judge, Justice Thushara Rajasinghe says the victim impact report provides the details of the emotional and psychological effect that this offence has caused to the complainant adding it has adversely changed the complainant to a withdrawn, scared and paranoid child from a fun, active and happy young child.
Justice Rajasinghe says the complainant and her family had to relocate to a new house as a result of this incident.
He told the man he used the vulnerability of this child to fulfil his disgraceful sexual desire.
A non-parole period of 13 years and 6 months has been set.
