A 6-year-old boy with Fijian links has died after a tonsil surgery at Southern Cross Hospital in Auckland earlier this week.

The family was told that a complication occurred during surgery.

Following the surgery, the boy was discharged, however, he had collapsed at home and was rushed to the Starship Children’s Hospital.

He died after life support was switched off.

The scans revealed he was effectively brain dead.

Health New Zealand and the Police are investigating the matter.

His funeral will taken on Friday.
