50% of university graduates seeking to be teachers have failed the Ministry of Education’s English Proficiency Test.

About 2,600 teachers sat for the Job Test hoping to get one of the 2,500 teaching positions being offered by the Ministry.

Permanent Secretary for Education, Iowane Tiko says those that failed the English Proficiency Test will get a chance to sit the test this Saturday.

He says if they fail the test again then they have to find another job.

Tiko says this was a basic English test.

Tiko says these test results confirms the Ministry’s worst fear which is that most teachers did not have a good command of the English language.
