5-year-old boy dies in house fire in Matanikorovatu Road in Makoi

A 5-year-old boy has passed away in a house fire in Matanikorovatu Road in Makoi yesterday.

The two-bedroom house was destroyed.

According to the National Fire Authority, the house was occupied by a couple and their five sons who were asleep when the fire started.

The NFA says the intensity of the heat woke the family and while they were escaping the fire, the fourth son was left behind and the family could not rescue him due to the intense fire.

The National Fire Authority arrived at the scene at 9.50am and found the two-bedroom house was on fire.

The Valelevu Fire Station was alerted of the house fire at 9.46am.

NFA managed to stop the fire from spreading to nearby houses.

Three fire trucks from Valelevu and Suva Fire Stations responded to the fire scene with 13 firefighters and 4 senior staff.

NFA is working with the Police to investigate the cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the death of the boy.
