5 women from Omkar Road, Narere who had struggled to have a constant source of income are reaping the benefits of a one-week workshop conducted by the Social Empowerment and Education Programme (SEEP) where they learnt the basics of running their own local business within their groups.

SEEP, Director, Chantelle Khan says they provided the women with 3 rounds of their stock to sell and then the women have to fund their own stock.

Khan says the women also have to spend a minimum amount to buy goods from amongst themselves.

Firoza Bibi who is one of the beneficiaries says her husband works as a carpenter and does not have permanent employment.

Bibi says since they have joined the Local Economy Initiative under SEEP, she has benefited a lot as now they do not have to go to bed with an empty stomach.

Chantelle Khan adds there are plans to take this initiative to other communities as well.
