496 stray animals have been caught in the Western Division alone this year.
This is part of the Ministry of Agriculture’s ‘Stray Animals Campaign” which is to solve the issue of stray animals on the streets.
Permanent Secretary for Agriculture Jitendra Singh says these numbers reflect the negligence on the part of taking ownership and care of their animals.
He says it is unfortunate that the Ministry has to impound these animals as they affect the farmers contribution towards the economy.
The Stray Animals Campaign will continue throughout the year.
