49% increase in complaints against police

We did not do well in the first quarter due to the increased number of complaints against us.

That is the assessment of Police Commissioner, Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua as he has revealed that complaints and disciplinary offences against disciplined service officers increased by 49 percent in the first three months of this year.

While addressing officers of the Southern Division at the quarterly parade in Suva at 5.45 this morning, Naivalurua said these complaints show that they have failed to conduct themselves as police officers and the Police simply did not serve the people well.

He said these included dishonest investigations, incomplete reports and not providing feedbacks in a timely manner on the complaints.

The Commissioner said his deputy will now be required to sit with a committee and verify the performance of all the officers on a monthly basis.

There is some good news as there was a reduction in crime against women by 52percent and reduction in crime against children by 24 percent in the first three months of this year.
