One person has died and two houses were completely destroyed in a fire on Senivono Road, Narere, on Tuesday night.

Police confirmed to fijivillage News this morning that the fire started around 8:20pm and claimed the life of 47-year-old Umesh Raj Bechu, who was bedridden and alone in his three-bedroom concrete house.

They say the fire also destroyed a neighboring three-bedroom wooden and corrugated iron house belonging to 65-year-old Eroni Delai.

Police say the cause of the fire and the estimated cost of damages are still under investigation.

They say Bechu’s body has been taken to the CWM Mortuary for a post-mortem.

We have sent further questions to the National Fire Authority of Fiji.
