41-year-old man in Police custody for bribery and illicit drugs

A 41-year-old man is in custody at the Sigatoka Police Station for allegedly trying to bribe a police officer during a joint operation with the Land Transport Authority.

The alleged incident occurred along the Queens Road near Koromumu yesterday morning.

Police say the suspect was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for a routine check.

They say the suspect allegedly offered $200 to the officer to release the vehicle, and a search conducted on the suspect resulted in the alleged discovery of dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

The suspect was arrested, and the seized substances were sent for analysis.
