A 40-year-old man was arrested along Waimanu Road yesterday after he was allegedly found with white substances believed to be methamphetamine.

Chief Operations Officer and Assistant Commissioner of Police Livai Driu says the suspect was also found with smoking apparatus and the seized substances have been sent for analysis.

He says other arrests for unlawful possession of illicit drugs namely marijuana were made in Vatuwaqa, Lautoka, Sigatoka, Nadi and Seaqaqa in the last 24-hours, with all suspects in custody.

ACP/O Driu says a notable change has been seen towards supporting efforts in eradicating the illegal drug trade in recent weeks.

He adds in recent weeks there has been a positive change, as more people are providing tips on drug related activities.

ACP/O Driu says they receive calls, messages through various Fiji Police social media pages which have been referred for necessary action and some have led to seizures of both white and green drugs and arrests.

He has commended the sharing of information as it not only assists policing efforts but shows growing community support needed to effectively tackle the drug trade.

He also encourages the members of the public to use the Crime Stoppers line 919, send private messages via the Fiji Police Force Facebook, Twitter and Instagram page should they wish to share information on the illegal trade.

ACP/O Driu further says all tips and information shared will be kept confidential.
