40 Yaqara Pastoral workers on strike from today over unpaid COLA

40 Yaqara Pastoral Company Ltd workers are on strike from today as their demands of Cost of Living Adjustment payment has not been met.

The National Union of Workers says they have followed the law and have the mandate to go on strike.

The workers demand that they be paid COLA from 2024 and last year.

The Union says they had almost reached an agreement last November, but the company pulled out, claiming that they were not in a position to pay.

They say this is even though the company paid a dividend to the government last month.

Yaqara Pastoral Company Ltd paid a dividend of over $3.9 million last month, representing 50 percent of the company’s net profit after tax for the combined 2018 and 2019 financial periods.

Yaqara Pastoral is yet to respond to our questions.

Questions have also been sent to the Ministry of Public Enterprise.
